Preston North End take on Sunderland in the Championship on Monday and we could yet see some players given chances.
Monday’s clash at Deepdale will bring the curtain down on Ryan Lowe’s first full season as PNE boss.
There is nothing to really play for on Monday thought with North End now officially ruled out of playoff contention.
Sunderland will have top six hopes on the final day but PNE may be able to use this game to blood some young players.
Why Chelsea FINALLY Turned A Corner.
North End have released some photos from training ahead of Monday’s game and Lowe appears to have called up a couple of youth team prospects.
One photo shows Kitt Nelson alongside Lewis Leigh as well as first-team players Ben Woodburn, Troy Parrott, Alvaro Fernandez and Bambo Diaby.
Nelson has been with North End since Under-9 level and recently had a one-year option on his contract taken up by PNE.
The teenager is hailed for his ‘fantastic dribbling ability’ on PNE’s official website and will no doubt hope for a first-team debut on Monday.
PNE also posted a photo of Kian Taylor in first-team training as Lowe got a close look at the defender.
Taylor offers real versatility having featured as a centre back, wing back and even as a midfielder in the PNE youth ranks.
Who knows which role Lowe would use him in, but Taylor is another youngster now in contention to face Sunderland.
PNE are already without Bambo Diaby and Greg Cunningham for Monday’s game so Taylor could emerge as cover on the bench.
We aren’t expecting Nelson or Taylor to start against Sunderland but it’s exciting to see Lowe giving these first-team training opportunities to North End’s youngsters.
Let’s hope we see them emerge as first-team stars down the line given North End’s patchy youth development record in recent years.
