North End’s losing run continued on Saturday afternoon, falling to a 4-1 defeat away at West Bromwich Albion.

After losing to Reading, Sheffield United and Leeds United, North End need a response on Gentry Day. Sadly, it was one of the worst performances of 2019.

Dwight Gayle bagged a first half brace, and Jay Rodriguez made it 3-0 before the break. Gayle completed his hat-trick in the second half, before Callum Robinson pulled back a consolation for North End.

With four defeats in a row, the playoffs have now long gone. Thankfully, the speculation surrounding Alex Neil’s future, which permeated Saturday’s game, has now ended.

All the news of Neil’s new contract means there hasn’t been much actual reaction to Saturday’s game. Unsurprisingly, most of the reaction has been hugely negative, after what was a dreadful showing.

However, midfielder Ryan Ledson was one of the few shining lights. With Ben Pearson suspended yet again, Ledson has been given another chance to prove himself to Neil.

It’s been somewhat frustrating for Ledson and the fans that his runs in the side have only come with Pearson out. That’s largely what he was bought for, but even when impressing, he’s been dropped as soon as Pearson has returned.

They did play together against Sheffield United, a game which Ledson again looked promising. On Saturday, he seemed to impress the North End fans who travelled to The Hawthorns.

Fans took to Twitter to suggest that Ledson was North End’s leading performer and gave his best showing so far, with others praising his commitment to tackles and backing him for a bright future.
