It’s still unclear when the league season will actually be completed, with the global pandemic leaving the campaign up in the air as things stand.

Many possible ways to end the season have been put forward, but with no football for almost two months now, there’s a growing possibility of the season being scrapped and voided.

Last weekend was supposed to be the end of the season, meaning loan deals have ended for some players; the contracts they signed will have run up until the final day of the season, and that was the case for Josh Earl.

The Preston defender was out on loan at Bolton Wanderers for the first half of the season, impressing as a centre back before North End recalled him in January.

Rather than use him in the first team, Preston sent Earl out for a second time, this time securing him a loan move to League One promotion-chasers Ipswich Town under Paul Lambert.

Earl featured as a left wing-back or as a left-sided centre back with the Tractor Boys, with seven appearances for his name before the season was suspended back in March.

Ipswich confirmed Earl’s return to Preston as his loan move expired on Monday, and fans took to Twitter to give their views on the Preston talent as he makes his way back to Deepdale.

Some felt that Earl was impressive, praising him for his ability on the ball, defensive solidity and his mobility for his size, believing that he was ‘quality’ and ‘class’, whilst suggesting he is welcome back at Portman Road.

Others think Earl was ‘average at best’ and ‘aren’t fussed’ about him leaving the club, but the general consensus is that Earl made a positive impression down in Suffolk.
