Preston North End are interested in signing Wycombe Wanderers midfielder Lewis Wing ahead of the summer transfer window.

That’s according to Football League World, who claim that Wing is attracting major interest.

It’s stated that six current Championship clubs are interested in signing Wing at the end of the season.

PNE are thought to be one of them with Blackburn Rovers, Coventry City, Reading, Rotherham United and Sunderland also keen.

Why Chelsea FINALLY Turned A Corner.

Wing allegedly wants a return to Championship action and believes he is good enough to play higher than League One.

The 27-year-old has been in great form this season, nothing eight goals and four assists in 34 league games for Wycombe.

It’s unclear just when Wing’s contract ends as Wycombe didn’t announce a length for his new deal last summer.

The first thought here is that this could be agent talk; six clubs interested in one player smacks of an agent trying to get a move.

Yet when it comes to PNE and Wing, there has been some history.

The Northern Echo reported in 2018 that North End were interested in signing Wing from Middlesbrough.

Lancs Live noted in January 2021 that PNE had looked into a move to sign Wing before he joined Rotherham United.

Wing has been on the radar at Deepdale in years gone by and Wing’s form this season may have sparked the interest up again.

Two PNE midfielders are out of contract this summer in Ben Woodburn and Daniel Johnson.

Woodburn has a one-year option in his deal but hasn’t impressed of late whilst Johnson is back in the team but will command hefty wages.

There is a real chance that PNE move on from both players and would need to add a couple of midfielders, which is where Wing would come in.

We’re a touch sceptical on this one but the previous interest in Wing does add some weight to the latest rumours.
