Wrexham gave Sheffield United a real scare in the FA Cup on Sunday with former Preston North End target James Jones on the scoresheet.
All eyes were on the Racecourse Ground on Sunday evening with Hollywood-owned Wrexham taking on Championship promotion hopefuls Sheffield United.
Ryan Reynolds was in the stands to watch his side try and pull off a giantkilling but it didn’t exactly start well as Oli McBurnie headed the visitors in front.
This became an FA Cup classic though as James Jones hauled Wrexham level from close range.
The Bizarre Rise & Fall Of The Chinese Super League
Thomas O’Connor had Wrexham in front before Oliver Norwood fired the Blades level again.
Daniel Jebbison’s red card handed Wrexham the initiative and they appeared to be going through when Paul Mullin grabbed a dramatic late goal.
There was one more twist though as John Egan buried a 95th minute equaliser, sending the tie to a replay.
Midfielder Jones became a hero with his crucial goal to bring Wrexham back level in the second half, and it’s a name some PNE fans will remember.
The Scottish ace was targeted for a move to North End back in 2017 after shining with Crewe Alexandra.
Alex Neil seemingly fancied bringing Jones to Deepdale after 11 goals from midfield in the 2016-17 season.

Sadly, Jones failed a medical with PNE due to groin and pelvic problems and his £300,000 move was scrapped.
Jones played just six times in 2017-18 season as a result of his injury problems and whilst he did earn a League One move to Lincoln City in 2020, he headed to Wrexham in non-league just a year later.
Now 26, Jones is still fighting to get back to his best, and he would no doubt love to play in the Championship – as he would when PNE came calling.
The way Wrexham are going, he may end up in the second tier with them one day.
For now though, Jones will be trying to win promotion from non-league and maybe dump the Blades out of the FA Cup having some so close on Sunday.
