The Sunday newspapers are always a source of gossip and tittle-tattle, but today’s brought up a rather odd tale for Preston fans.

Alan Nixon in The Sun on Sunday (05/07, p61) states that Preston striker David Nugent was involved in a spat during Wednesday’s defeat to Derby County.

The person he was unhappy with? North End advisor Peter Ridsdale.

This report claims that Ridsdale yelled ‘Get up, you!’ when Nugent hit the deck for a third time inside the first 10 minutes of the clash against his former club.

Given that Deepdale is empty right now due to pandemic protocol, Nugent heard Ridsdale’s shout – and ‘snapped back’ at Ridsdale, who was sat in the stands.

We have heard nothing on this situation, and aren’t in a position to confirm nor deny Nixon’s claims. The tiff is described as being a ‘bizarre bust-up’, though we highly doubt that this incident – if it’s actually true – will be a long-lasting rift between the two.

Both men have been in the game for a long, long time now, and will likely know that things said in the heat of the moment should be brushed off pretty quickly.

Ridsdale maybe shouldn’t be shouting at our own players, especially when confidence is already low after such a disappointing run of form of late.

Nugent has only scored once this season, so receiving shouts from Trevor Hemmings’ advisor won’t exactly help, but it has hopefully been nipped in the bud in the last few days.
