Preston North End talent Aaron Bennett appears to be on trial with Wigan Athletic ahead of the summer transfer window.

Wigan’s Under-21’s are in Central League Cup Final action tonight as they take on Blackpool at Bloomfield Road.

Stephen Crainey has named two trialists in his team with Wigan seemingly assessing young talents to sign.

Wigan posted a video of the teams coming out at Bloomfield Road and PNE fans may have spotted a familiar face.

Why Chelsea FINALLY Turned A Corner.

16 seconds into the clip, PNE talent Aaron Bennett – or somebody who is Aaron Bennett’s doppelgänger – walks onto the pitch with the Wigan side.

It looks like Bennett is one of the Wigan trialists tonight and is hoping to win a contract at the DW Stadium.

Bennett wore the number 10 shirt for Wigan and could follow in the footsteps of Joe Rodwell-Grant.

It was around this time last year that Rodwell-Grant was spotted playing as a trialist for Wigan and he went on to join the Latics.

The Welsh playmaker has been highly rated in the North End ranks but could now be on his way out.

Most out-of-contract youth players know by now whether they have a new deal or not.

For Bennett to be featuring for another club suggests that North End have already decided to let him go.

That’s a surprising decision given that it’s only a few years ago that Bennett was being reported as PNE’s ‘best find in years’.

The Sun’s Alan Nixon reported that North End were looking to fast-track Bennett into the first-team picture at a very young age.

The 19-year-old showed promise on loan at Altrincham this season, displaying the ability to create and score from range.

Sadly, it looks like PNE aren’t convinced and Bennett could now join Wigan, where he would have a chance to make North End pay for letting him go – just as Tyrhys Dolan has with Blackburn.
