Preston North End talent Lewis Leigh has attracted lofty admirers – and has now scored a screamer for PNE’s youth team.
Leigh was named on the PNE bench away at Millwall earlier this year, with Alex Neil seeing potential in him.
The former Liverpool kid actually hails from the Preston area and is now trying to break through at Deepdale.
After featuring in pre-season, Leigh was given the number 17 shirt – very much a first team number.
Yet with Ben Whiteman, Ryan Ledson, Ali McCann, Alan Browne, Daniel Johnson and Brad Potts all competing for midfield roles, Leigh has yet to play in the first team this season.
Leigh is still regarded as a real prospect. Football Insider reported last month that Everton and West Ham United both still want to sign Leigh in January.
That comes despite the 17-year-old signing a professional deal with PNE until 2024.
Over the weekend, Leigh turned out for PNE’s Under-19’s against Fleetwood Town.
The midfielder played a key role in a huge 7-0 win, scoring the opener after just three minutes.
PNE have now uploaded a video of the goal, showing Leigh striking a first-time effort into the net from long-range.
That set PNE on their way to a huge win, with Leigh shining in midfield.
Interest could come in January, but PNE will hope to not only hold on to Leigh, but also see him remerge in the first team over the coming years.
