Preston completed their third signing of the summer on Thursday, taking Aston Villa winger Andre Green on loan.
After signing Patrick Bauer and David Nugent, North End’s summer went a little quiet. Even after losing star winger Callum Robinson to Sheffield United, business didn’t really pick up.
On Thursday though, Alex Neil swooped for Robinson’s replacement, signing Green; a right-footed left winger who came up through the Villa ranks before heading to Deepdale. Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?
Green featured for Villa last season in their promotion-winning campaign, and also impressed out on loan at Portsmouth. The 21-year-old has been backed for a bright future but desperately needs playing time.

With Anwar El Ghazi signed permanently and deals done for Jota and Trezeguet, that wasn’t going to happen at Villa this season. Dean Smith has now made the sensible decision to send Green out on loan, with game time likely at North End.

Villa may be hoping that Green develops in the same way Robinson did, but his long-term future is unclear. There may even be a chance that Green – like Robinson – is playing for a permanent move away.
Villa fans have subsequently taken to Twitter to react to the move, with many feeling it’s ‘amazing’ for Green to be playing in such a good side. Others think he improved last season and could rip the Championship apart if he improves his end product.
Some even think Green may have played his final game for Villa, and hope North End sign him permanently. They just feel Green isn’t of Villa’s level now they’re back in the top flight, and a permanent move to Deepdale could be perfect for him – just as it was for Robinson three years ago.
