Preston are back in Championship action on Boxing Day, as they travel to take on Derby County at Pride Park.

North End went into Christmas with a 1-0 win over Bristol City, and will have to be ready for a tricky game against the Rams.

Preston may have beaten Derby in the Carabao Cup earlier this season, but they have now claim two wins and three draws in their last five Championship games.

Alex Neil’s men also don’t have the best record at Derby in recent years, but one player will be more desperate than most to make a big impact on the game.

Striker Emil Riis joined Derby in 2015 as he left Randers, and his Under-23 record for the Rams stands at seven goals and four assists in 30 games.

The Dane was released in 2018 though, heading back to Randers where his form prompted interest from North End, teeing up a £1.2million deal.

Riis was never given a first-team chance at Derby, and had to join Preston to try and prove himself in England again, with unfinished business at Championship level.

On Saturday, Riis has the chance to play against Derby and prove them wrong for letting him go, and it could be an ideal game for him to impress.

Riis is particularly threatening on the counter-attack, using his pace, energy and strength to trouble defenders when isolated in wide areas and given space to run in behind.

Preston will likely have to play on the counter against the Rams, and that’s where Riis can be so threatening, causing mayhem to opposition defences.

Riis will be desperate to prove his quality against the club that let him go, and prove that he is much, much better than the player that left the Rams more than two years ago.
