Preston have stunned many in Scotland by securing the signature of St Johnstone midfielder Ali McCann late into deadline day.
Whilst many were focusing on the addition of a striker, adding another midfielder was just as important to North End.
Tom Bayliss heading out on loan to Wigan Athletic created a need for an athletic midfielder who could play in a two-man midfield in Frankie McAvoy’s 3-4-1-2.
Preston have now secured McCann in a deal worth around £1.2million rising to more than £1.75million, which many in Scotland view as a huge coup.
That fee is a long way short of the £40million St Johnstone suggested in August having seen him dazzle against Galatasaray.
St Johnstone accompanied that tweet with a video of McCann’s highlights against the Turkish giants as he read the game brilliant, making tackles and interceptions as well as getting St Johnstone onto the attack.
Fans will absolutely see some shades of Ben Pearson in that video, and it’s an absolute must-watch for any Preston fan after McCann’s arrival.
And remember – this isn’t against other Scottish clubs. This is against Galatasaray in a European qualifier, and we can’t wait to see the Northern Ireland international in action against Championship midfielders.
