Preston have tied up a second summer signing today, bringing back Sepp van den Berg on loan from Liverpool.
North End had already re-signed loanee Liam Lindsay on a permanent basis, but have now brought back Van den Berg too.
With Greg Cunningham and Ched Evans signed up for the next two years and Daniel Iversen expected to come back too, that would be five of Preston’s short-term January signings staying for next season at least.
So what’s Preston next move? Iversen may well becoming back, but that deal isn’t expected to happen until after Euro 2020.
Leicester goalkeepers Kasper Schmeichel and Danny Ward are both at Euro 2020, and the Foxes don’t want to leave themselves short by sending Iversen out now.
There are two key names in the mix for Preston’s next signing; right back Matthew Olosunde and playmaker Izzy Brown.
The pair are both free agents having left Rotherham and Chelsea respectively. Both have held talks with North End and can sign immediately on free transfers.
Olosunde may have been relegated with Rotherham, but he’s quick and can get forward, meaning he may be a fit as a right wing back.
As for Brown, he is primarily a number 10 who can play in other areas going forward. Brown clearly has talent, but needs to find a settled home after loan moves and disruptions due to injury.
If we had to predict one to come in next, we’d go with Brown – but Olosunde may not be far behind as Preston’s summer business begins to heat up.
