Preston take on Burnley tonight and that means facing off against Arijanet Muric – three years since North End were interested in the goalkeeper.

Some names like Tendayi Darikwa and Taylor Twellman will be remembered by Preston fans for their links with a move to Deepdale.

Goalkeeper Muric fits into a similar kind of category after being targeted back in 2019.

We reported at the time that Preston were showing an interest in signing Muric on loan from Manchester City.

The Lancashire Evening Post also noted that North End had enquired about Muric in the hope of a deal.

However, Muric signed a new deal at City and with his wages boosted, the Kosovo international instead ended up joining Nottingham Forest.

Muric struggled at the City Ground, playing just four league games before being replaced by Brice Samba.

Muric therefore missed out on two games against Preston before heading off to Girona, Willem II and Adana Demirspor.

Now 23, Muric has finally been sold by Manchester City – and he has ended up in Lancashire after all.

Burnley swooped in to sign Muric in a deal worth around £3million as Vincent Kompany landed a deal with former club Manchester City.

The giant 6ft 6in stopper is fancied by Kompany for his ability to play out from the back and he seems to have improved markedly since his torrid Forest spell.

Playing out from the back so much has left Burnley fans a little nervy, especially after gifting Blackpool a goal earlier this season, but Kompany has defended Muric.

Muric is nursing an injury but should be fit to face Preston tonight.

That means Muric is the latest goalkeeper attempting to continue North End’s goalscoring struggles.

Preston haven’t scored a single goal at home this season and Muric would no doubt love to add another game to that ever-growing tally.

From potential Preston signing to Burnley regular, Muric will now hope for a Deepdale win after all.
