Preston attacker Scott Sinclair has staked his claim for a starting role against Millwall by scoring twice in today’s Central League win over Accrington Stanley.

North End fielded a strong side for the visit of Stanley, with Sinclair, Brad Potts, Greg Cunningham, Jordan Storey, Paul Huntington and Ryan Ledson all starting.

Preston fell behind though, with Liam Lindsay putting through his own net.

Joe Rodwell-Grant levelled it up for Preston, before Sinclair bagged a quickfire brace to make it 3-1.

Substitute Mikey O’Neill added a fourth for Preston before another own goal – this time from Jamie Thomas – rounded off the scoring at 4-2.

Sinclair takes his claim for Preston role

Sinclair has endured a frustrating season this term. The 32-year-old has only started four Championship games and hasn’t scored a league goal.

With his contract up at the end of the season, it looks like Sinclair’s time at Preston will be coming to an end soon.

For now though, Sinclair just needs to impress new Preston boss Ryan Lowe.

On Saturday, Sinclair came off the bench and looked bright in attack with Emil Riis.

Sinclair won the free kick for Preston’s winning goal and has now scored twice to prove his worth to Lowe.

With Seani Maguire not quite clicking in front of goal, Sinclair could be given a chance to shine against Millwall this weekend – and set on one last run for a new deal.
