Preston North End will want Tom Cannon back next summer and fans will fear a repeat of the Cameron Archer saga.
Here we are again, giving up our hearts to loanees.
We’re often reminded not to fall in love with loan players, but it may be happening again.
Everton loanee Cannon has impressed in a PNE shirt and found the net against Blackpool last weekend.
That’s now three goals in the last four games for Cannon, who seems to be really finding his feet in the Championship.
This run of form has left fans dreaming of a full season with Cannon in the PNE attack next term.
We can imagine that PNE will be calling Everton regularly to try and bring Cannon back for next season, but that may just bring up memories of Cameron Archer.
Archer captured the hearts of PNE fans in his loan spell from Aston Villa last season and – just like Cannon – scored against Blackpool at Deepdale.
Summer came and PNE fans were desperate for Archer to come back but it just didn’t happen.
A host of other Championship clubs wanted to sign him and Villa then decided not to let Archer go out on loan at all.

Come January, PNE tried again but were snubbed as Archer instead chose to sign for Middlesbrough.
That meant PNE moved on to Cannon, but we’re now here again; the end of the season is approaching, Cannon has made himself a derby day hero and North End fans are hoping for his return.
We can already see the hundreds of questions over the summer asking if there is any news about Cannon coming back.
Let’s hope this summer brings a better outcome than the last one as PNE fans again fall head over heels for a loanee.
