Preston North End take on Liverpool in the Carabao Cup this month – and Sepp van den Berg’s participation is still in question.
PNE may have only won two Championship games in 11 this season, but have coasted through the Carabao Cup with three wins.
Mansfield Town, Morecambe and Cheltenham Town have been swept aside as North End have made it to the last 16.
Liverpool are next up for PNE in the Carabao Cup, presenting a whole different challenge.
The Reds don’t even have to name their full-strength team to cause major problems for North End.
They could even weaken PNE’s team too given the situation surrounding Sepp van den Berg.
The Dutch defender is on loan from Liverpool having initially joined as part of Ben Davies’s move to Anfield.
Van den Berg impressed so much that he is back for another season, and continues to shine at right wing back.
Liverpool can block Van den Berg from playing in that Carabao Cup game, and PNE have confirmed that they have been in talks with the Reds seeking permission for Van den Berg to play.
Reds fans have been reacting on Twitter to this news, and they seem a little split about the idea.
Some want to see Van den Berg play against Liverpool, believing it will be a great indication of just how much he has progressed with North End.
Others think letting Van den Berg play could end very badly, feeling that he could help PNE beat Liverpool and dump them out of the cup in embarrassing fashion.
