Preston fans confused by Alex Neil's decision to substitute Anthony Gordon

Preston drew 0-0 with Queens Park Rangers on Wednesday night, somewhat showing a response after the 4-0 thrashing at Cardiff City.

North End were much more solid at the back, as well as being more dangerous going forward, but it was only one point rather than three.

Winger Anthony Gordon was particularly dangerous throughout, causing problems with his dribbling and flair in the final third.

There were really exciting moments, but also some frustration; only four of Gordon’s 16 crosses were accurate, with a lack of real end product in the final third.

Alex Neil decided to substitute Gordon with 10 minutes to play, bringing on Tom Barkhuizen for the final stages.

Barkhuizen was unable to really get into the game, and fans took to Twitter to share their frustration at Neil’s decision to substitute Gordon.

The Everton loanee is still young and is getting minutes into his legs, with Neil potentially just giving him an extra rest ahead of this weekend’s game with Huddersfield Town.

That doesn’t wash for some North End supporters, who took to Twitter to call Neil’s substitution ‘baffling’ and ‘incredible’.

Some just can’t possibly understand why Neil would take him off when Preston were seeking a goal – but if he’s refreshed and impresses against Huddersfield, maybe his decision will pay off.
