Preston North End picked up just a second home win of the season tonight, as they beat Middlesbrough 3-0 at Deepdale.

Alex Neil’s men have struggled at home this term, and needed a response after a disappointing 2-2 draw with Wycombe Wanderers.

Preston were by far the better team tonight though, and whilst it didn’t really pay off in the first half, North End cashed in after the break.

Brad Potts opened the scoring, turning Andrew Hughes’ goal-bound shot into the net to put North End 1-0 up.

Emil Riis came on as a substitute and made an instant impact, setting up Scott Sinclair to make it 2-0 before adding a third himself.

Preston are now just five points off the top six, and with seven points from nine games, Neil should be pleased with the response to the 4-1 defeat at Watford.

With Daniel Johnson suspended tonight, Brad Potts was given the nod as the number 10, and he was superb throughout.

Potts made driving runs at the heart of the Boro defence, feeding off Jayden Stockley whilst linking play in the final third, and he ultimately deserved his goa.

Fans have often been critical of Potts throughout his time at North End, but it was nothing but praise for him tonight as he turned in a man of the match performance – here’s how some Preston fans reacted to his performance against Boro…
