We all knew that there was a strong chance Ben Davies would be leaving Preston this month, and it could end up happening.

Davies is inside the final six months of his contract, and is now able to sign a pre-contract agreement with a non-English club.

Celtic have been pursuing Davies for months now, and it now seems that they’re making the move for the 25-year-old.

Sky Sports report that Celtic have spoken to Davies about a pre-contract agreement, but a deal could end up happening this month.

Preston would allegedly be willing to sell Davies to Celtic for around £2.5million, having quoted Championship rivals Bournemouth £3million.

Davies has been one of the biggest success stories of Alex Neil’s time in charge, emerging as a talented ball-playing centre back.

Being a left-footed centre back in this day and age is very appealing, and Davies has the pace and reading of the game that will turn heads.

Preston fans have now been taking to Twitter to react to the news, suggesting that Davies is a ‘big loss’ and the best centre back seen at Preston for some time.

Others now want Davies sold immediately to bring in cash, though some feel that he will be vital between now and the end of the season, but at least Celtic fans will know they’re getting a quality player if a deal goes through.
