Preston were beaten on Tuesday night, falling to a 2-1 defeat against Millwall at The Den.
North End were looking to build on Saturday’s 3-0 win over Huddersfield Town, and did take the lead against Millwall with a stunning volley from Ched Evans.
Scott Malone equalised with a screamer of his own, before Mason Bennett nicked a second-half winner for the Lions.
There weren’t many things for Preston fans to shout about on Tuesday night, but Ben Whiteman did turn in a decent display.
The midfielder arrived from Doncaster Rovers in January for a seven-figure fee, the only winter addition at Deepdale signed up beyond the end of the season.
Whiteman has shown quality in the heart of the Preston midfield since his arrival, slotting into a holding role vacated by Ben Pearson.
On Tuesday, Whiteman controlled the game in the first half, dropping in between the centre backs to start attacks whilst rarely making bad decisions.
Fans took to Twitter to praise Whiteman, praising him as ‘class’ and Premier League quality given the way he dominated in the first half.
His influence waned in the second half, but he didn’t exactly receive much help in midfield, and fans still backed him to become a ‘PNE legend’ after this performance.
