Preston returned to winning ways with a superb 2-1 victory away at rivals Blackburn Rovers on Friday night.

North End entered this game in poor form with four defeats in the previous six games, and were pretty disappointing in the 2-1 defeat to Rotherham United last weekend having conceded two frankly ridiculous goals.

All eyes were on Alex Neil as his side made the trip to Ewood Park, with fans fearing the worst – especially after losing 3-0 to Rovers at Deepdale in November.

This was a much improved display though; Preston showed great intensity, shape and pressing throughout a fine first-half showing.

Greg Cunningham fired Preston ahead, smashing home a left-footed drive from a pinpoint Alan Browne pass, before Liam Lindsay headed home the second.

Adam Armstrong converted a soft penalty for Rovers before the half-time whistle, but North End held firm in the second half to seal a 2-1 win.

One of the star performers on the night was Lindsay, who started in the heart of the back three alongside Jordan Storey and Andrew Hughes.

Signed on deadline day from Stoke City, the Scot was okay against Rotherham but really starred last night, posting impressive stats in a solid night for the loanee.

According to WhoScored, Lindsay racked up six clearances, four aerial won, three interceptions and three tackles in a complete display topped off by his second-half goal.

Fans took to Twitter to rave about Lindsay, branding him a ‘brick wall’ and ‘immense’, urging Preston to get him signed up permanently as soon as possible.
