Preston are likely to go for a new centre back or two this summer.
Ben Davies leaving the club has undoubtedly left a hole in Preston’s back line, and a left-footed centre back has to be the top priority.
Patrick Bauer, Jordan Storey and Paul Huntington can cover the right side, but whilst Andrew Hughes can play there in an emergency, a proper replacement for Davies would be ideal.
Preston did bring in a left-footed centre back to replace Davies in Liam Lindsay, signing him on loan from Stoke City until the summer.
Given that he hadn’t played for a year with Stoke, it was clear that a strong loan spell could lead to a permanent move at the end of the season.
Lindsay has been solid if unspectacular. He became a derby day hero with a goal at Blackburn Rovers, but struggled in the 4-0 thrashing at Cardiff City.
The Scot has mostly been used in the centre of a back three, where his lack of speed isn’t as exposed – and that could play a big part in North End’s decision on whether or not to sign him.
We took to Twitter to find out what fans think about Lindsay; should he be signed permanently? Or are Preston better off looking elsewhere?
Well, we got a real mix of responses. Some think that Lindsay could be a bargain addition, and may actually be Preston’s best centre back right now, so should be brought in permanently.
Others would only take him if another centre back is coming in too, whilst some don’t want him at all, claiming North End can do much better.
