Preston North End beat Cheltenham Town 4-1 on Tuesday night, with new signing Ali McCann shining on his full debut for the club.

PNE were 2-0 up at the break as Andrew Hughes and Joe Rafferty scored rare goals.

Kyle Vassell pulled one back for the visitors, but Seani Maguire and Emil Riis found the net to secure a big win.

North End coast into the last 16, and midfielder McCann stole the hearts of PNE fan on his full debut.

McCann shines in PNE midfield

McCann joined North End from St Johnstone on deadline, beating the cut-off point by mere minutes.

The 21-year-old has had to make do with substitute appearances so far, but was given a first start against Cheltenham.

McCann recorded two tackles, two blocked shots, one interception, three successful dribbles, and 51 accurate passes.

PNE fans were loving what they saw from McCann, taking to Instagram to call him ‘an absolute gem’.

Others suggested that McCann ‘oozes class’ and looks like a star in the making.

There were even comparisons to Paul McKenna, with PNE fans desperate to see more of McCann in action.
