Preston North End face League One side Cheltenham Town on Tuesday night in the Carabao Cup at Deepdale.

PNE are attempting to reach the last 16 of the competition for the first time since 2016.

It would be nice to have a cup run and Frankie McAvoy has said he will be sending a strong team out to win the game. There will be some changes though, and with players not in the 25 man squad for the league itching to play, you would expect a few of those to come in.

McAvoy has named the same eleven for the past four league games, and with some tough encounters over the last 10 days, you would think some players will be rested. Patrick Bauer won’t be risked after breaking his nose on Saturday, and Declan Rudd is expected to come back into the side.

There will probably be changes up front as well, although you would imagine Emil Riis will want to continue his good form in this competition, with three goals already to his name.

There’s a chance for Ali McCann and Connor Wickham to start their first games for the club although Josh Murphy is cup tied having already featured for Cardiff City in an earlier round.

Predicted team

Rudd; Lindsay, Storey, Huntington; Rafferty, McCann, Potts, Cunningham; Browne; Wickham, Evans

Substitutes: Iversen, Hughes, van den Berg, Johnson, Sinclair, Maguire, Riis

Scott Sinclair may make a return to the squad having missed the last month due to injury. With so many options to choose from it’s hard for McAvoy to rotate the squad and still keep everyone happy.

There’s still Josh Harrop and Jamie Thomas missing from that predicted squad as well.
