Hull City's new faces profiled as Preston face tough battle against new-look Tigers

Preston travel to take on Hull City this afternoon, and the hosts take on a much different look compared to the opening day of the season.

Most of us will, sadly, remember that first game of the campaign. Newly-promoted Hull rolled into town and Preston fans will have been hoping for a win.

Emil Riis got North End off to the perfect start, but Hull ran riot with a 4-1 win, humiliating Preston a mere 90 minutes into the campaign.

Much has changed now, with Preston heading to the MKM Stadium in search of revenge.

For starters, Hull have a new owner. Assem Allam has finally ended his controversial time in charge of the club, selling to Turkish businessman Acun Ilicali.

A media mogul in his home country, Ilicali has been bizarrely named as the ‘Turkish Simon Cowell’ in recent times.

One of Ilicali’s first decisions was to sack manager Grant McCann, who guided the Tigers fro promotion from League One last season.

Ilicali already had his man in mind, immediately appointing Shota Arveladze as Hull’s new manager.

Many in England remember Arveladze for his goalscoring exploits with Rangers during his playing days.

The Georgian has since turned to management, coaching in Turkey, Israel and Uzbekistan before heading to Hull.

A two-time title winner in Uzbekistan and with one win from one game as Hull boss, Arveladze is an intriguing appointment and a difficult matchup for Ryan Lowe today.

With new ownership, Hull were able to go into the transfer market and bolster their squad after transfer embargo problems.

Three loan signings have arrived, with midfielder Liam Walsh and exciting striker Marcus Forss arriving from Swansea City and Brentford respectively.

The wildcard addition is Iranian attacker Allahyar Sayyadmanesh, who has come in from Fenerbahce with Ilicali’s influence in Turkey no doubt key.

Former Preston target Regan Slater returned to the club too, and loanee Ryan Longman – linked with Preston of late – joined permanently from Brighton.

With these new signings in through the door as well as a new owner and manager, this is a Hull side with a real positive energy around it – and Preston will have a tough task ahead of them today.
