Preston must keep Blackpool striker Jerry Yates quiet if they're to enjoy derby day success

Preston will be looking to pick up all three points at bitter rivals Blackpool on Saturday afternoon, and will absolutely need to keep Jerry Yates quiet.

North End make the short trip down the M55 on Saturday for arguably the biggest game of the season.

The two sides haven’t met in any competition since 2013, and not in a league game since 2010.

This is quite simply a massive game for Preston, and fans are praying that Wednesday’s 2-1 win over Coventry City sparks some form.

Blackpool may have only just returned to the Championship, but they have plenty of players who could hurt North End on the day.

The main goal threat is striker Jerry Yates, who scored twice in Blackpool’s 3-2 midweek win at Reading.

Yates, formerly of Rotherham United, cost Blackpool just £200,000 in 2020.

He responded with a 23-goal campaign, firing Blackpool to promotion. Yates already has five goals in 12 outings this season.

The 24-year-old is proving to be a real threat in the Championship, really living up to the billing of ‘top-drawer’ from Blackpool boss Neil Critchley.

Yates was allegedly valued at around £2million in March, and you can imagine that price tag has only risen.

If Preston are to get a positive result out of this game, they need to keep Yates quiet.
