Preston responded to Saturday’s defeat at Reading by drawing 1-1 with Leeds United on Tuesday night.
North End had lost right at the end against Reading, and there was more late heartbreak last night. Tom Barkhuizen put Preston in front from close range, as Seani Maguire broke clear before squaring to the winger to score.
Preston just couldn’t hang on though, as Eddie Nketiah headed home an equaliser for Leeds. Alex Neil’s men had to stay strong after that, and kept Leeds at bay for the final few minutes to secure a point.
The late goal was a blow, but Neil will be pleased with a point in an entertaining second half. A few Preston players stood out, but none more so than defender Ben Davies.

It feels like there isn’t much more to say about Davies; you kind of run out of superlatives. Davies has been exceptional under Neil, and he was in top form again last night.

Davies read the game well, battled hard against Patrick Bamford and played out from the back brilliantly as ever, and he’s subsequently linked away from the club. Alan Nixon recently claimed that Brighton and Hove Albion, Everton, Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers all want Davies, with a £10million price tag claimed.
North End fans have been hailing Davies though, believing that his price tag will have gone up to the likes of Everton and Newcastle, as £20million would be more suitable for a player of his quality.
Others suggested that the 24-year-old bullied Bamford all night, feeling that he’s now the best centre back in the Championship – but with that comes fear that he may well head to a team like Everton or Newcastle come January.
