‘Back to his best’: Ryan Lowe praises Liam Lindsay after Preston North End draw

Preston North End boss Ryan Lowe has praised Liam Lindsay for getting back to his best against Hull City on Saturday afternoon.

PNE headed to the MKM Stadium on Saturday afternoon with Lowe still chasing results to turn North End’s form around.

Seven points from a possible 27 heading into the game had piled pressure on Lowe, with the midweek draw against Luton Town hardly lifting the mood.

PNE were second best in the early stages at Hull but arguably carved out the best chance of the game after the break.

Tom Cannon broke down the right flank before cutting back for Troy Parrott, who fired wide with the goal at his mercy.

Neither side could make the breakthrough and PNE will take a point even if it does little to ease the concerns over recent form.

Lowe was forced into a first-half change as Andrew Hughes picked up an injury and couldn’t continue.

Liam Lindsay came on his place having recently lost his spot in the heart of defence to Greg Cunningham.

The Scot has been a mainstay for most of the season but has maybe suffered a little dip in form of late.

Lindsay took his chance against Hull though, recording three interceptions, two blocked shots and one interception as well as three aerial duels won.

Lowe was delighted with Lindsay’s display and picked him out for praise when speaking to iFollow after the final whistle.

“We shifted Greg over and brought Liam Lindsay on, who I thought was back to his best today,” said Lowe when discussing Hughes’ injury.

With Hughes possibly facing a spell on the sidelines, Lindsay may well keep hold of his place in the middle of PNE’s back three.

That would allow Cunningham to play on the left side of the North End defence with Jordan Storey or Bambo Diaby on the right.

Lindsay recently signed a new contract and Lowe may have worried that the defender’s form would now tail off, but Saturday’s display hopefully puts him on the right track again.
