Former Preston North End winger Anthony Gordon is in line for a huge few days after hitting real heights with Newcastle United.
We have often talked about some of the young loanees who haven’t really impressed for PNE.
You can go back to the likes of Andy Carroll, Danny Welbeck and Josh King for examples of players who didn’t really show their best form for North End but ended up having fine careers.
Lukas Nmecha and Stephy Mavididi are becoming further additions to the list and Anthony Gordon probably deserves a mention too.
Gordon joined PNE on loan from Everton back in January 2021 with North End landing something of a coup.
The exciting winger had already shown promise in the Everton ranks before heading to Deepdale, but his loan move didn’t quite work out.
Gordon started just five games for North End as Alex Neil went in another direction whilst struggling or results towards the end of his reign.
Gordon certainly hasn’t allowed that disappointing spell at PNE hold him back – and we would now see him make his England debut.
Ex-PNE loanee Anthony Gordon set for England debut
Newcastle United sealed a £45million move for Gordon in January 2023 and he has taking his game to another level this season.
The 23-year-old has racked up nine goals and five assists in 27 Premier League outings, terrorising full backs for fun.
Gordon’s form has now seen him land an England call-up and he is in line for a senior debut in the coming days.
England take on Brazil and Belgium in the coming days and Gordon is primed for a first appearance for the Three Lions.

Gordon was a regular for the England Under-21’s and his rise since leaving PNE looks set to be marked with an international display.
Gordon has been so good this season that he may even land a call-up for Euro 2024 this summer alongside two other former PNE men.
Jordan Pickford and Sam Johnstone – who were both on loan at North End in 2015 – are in Gareth Southgate’s squad.
Jack Grealish and Marcus Rashford will certainly feel under some pressure with Gordon shining and it’s incredible to see how he has progressed since heading to North End.
PNE fans may wonder just why his loan spell went wrong but this is often the case for Premier League youngsters – as we have seen over the years.
