Alan Browne had a little run-in with Preston fans at Huddersfield Town on Tuesday, and he has attempted to clarify his position.

North End lost 1-0 at Huddersfield in midweek, with Sepp van den Berg’s own goal condemning Preston to a miserable defeat.

Frankie McAvoy’s men did at least respond with a victory at home to Peterborough United on Saturday afternoon, claiming a 1-0 win.

For some though, one incident from Tuesday’s defeat remains important.

Captain Alan Browne had a run-in with angry North End fans at the final whistle, and appeared to gesticulate towards one particular fan.

Some feel that this wasn’t suitable for the Preston captain, and believe the Irishman owes the fanbase something of an apology.

Browne wasn’t involved in the win over Peterborough having been forced to isolate, but after applauding the victory on Twitter, the incident at Huddersfield came up once again.

Browne was told to apologise to the fans, but replied by stating the won’t apologise to one specific fan who aggravated him.

The midfielder added that he applauded the rest of the fans so no apology is necessary.

For our money, it wasn’t the greatest look in the heat of the moment, but it really is better to move on now.

Fans regularly give stick to players but seemingly can’t take a bit back.

It would be advisable for North End players to avoid similar situation, but this was a terrible defeat and a dismal night for the club.

Rather than hold this all against Browne moving forward, let’s try to put it in the past and move on, with Browne hopefully having a big role to play this season.
