Preston have been linked with two strikers this week, with Liverpool’s Rhian Brewster the most exciting name.

Additionally, the Daily Mail claimed that Preston want Eamonn Brophy. The Kilmarnock attacker has only scored four times this season, but appears to have a fan in Alex Neil.

Neil worked with Brophy at Hamilton Academical, giving him his big start in the game after being let go by Celtic and Hibernian. Brophy only scored eight times in 75 games for Hamilton, but Neil was an admirer.

Back in 2015, Neil told the Glasgow Times that Brophy wasn’t meant to be a first-teamer. Neil praised Brophy’s development, and it seems that the striker appreciated his management.

In 2018, Brophy spoke to the Daily Record about his career, and picked out Neil as a great influence. Brophy didn’t quite know why Neil liked him so much, but admitted he helped him ‘massively’.

“I’m not sure why Alex liked me. Maybe he saw a bit of himself in me,” said Brophy. “You need a bit of luck in football and I got it with Alex at Hamilton. He developed me massively as a player,” he added.

With the pair praising each other in the past, the rumours do make some sense. A reunion could appeal to Brophy given these comments, as playing for Neil again could be seen as a way to progress his carer once again.
