Alex Neil only left his position as Preston boss on Sunday afternoon, but he was already being mentioned for another job.
North End decided to part ways with Neil less than 24 hours after a 1-0 home defeat to Luton Town, which was Preston’s third straight defeat without scoring a goal.
With Preston sliding towards the bottom three, Neil has lost his job – and his name was quickly mentioned for another job.
Aberdeen recently parted company with Derek McInnes after eight years in charge at Pittodrie, and have been hunting a replacement.
Neil could have fit the bill given his previous record in Scotland, where he impressed in charge of Hamilton Academical.
However, The Scottish Sun report that despite Neil emerging as a contender late in the day, the job will be going to Stephen Glass.
The former Hibs midfielder is currently coaching with Atlanta United over in Major League Soccer, and a deal is now thought to be close.
After such a stressful few months at Preston, few could blame Neil if he fancied a break from the game anyway, recharging his batteries before returning this summer or next season – and we have no doubt that he will attract plenty of interest in the near future.
