Andre Green’s loan spell at Preston won’t go down in history, but fans will certainly remember his stint at Deepdale.
North End pounced to sign Green on loan from Aston Villa in August 2019, effectively signing him as a replacement for Callum Robinson.
Robinson actually recommended Preston to Green, and the parallels were clear; both had emerged at Aston Villa, both were England youth internationals and both were primarily left-sided wingers who like to cut inside.

Yet whilst Robinson became a Preston star in three loan spells and a permanent move to Deepdale, Green struggled.
He scored one goal against Bradford City in the Carabao Cup, and failed to start a single league game. His four Championship appearances amounted to 87 minutes as a substitute.

Green was offloaded in January 2020, joining Charlton Athletic where he obviously scored against Preston, because why wouldn’t he. Come the summer, Green was released by Villa, and he has been a free agent ever since.

Well, until now. The 22-year-old is back in the game, as he has completed a move to Preston’s Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday on an 18-month deal.
Green will hope to get his career back on track with Wednesday, as he has been struggling ever since Villa’s promotion to the Premier League in 2019.
He clearly still has talent, and could be a diamond in the rough for Wednesday, who have taken a low-risk punt on the winger despite his recent regression.
