Ben Whiteman sends transfer message to Preston hierarchy after another defeat

Preston remain winless and pointless after a 1-0 defeat at Huddersfield Town, and midfielder Ben Whiteman has called for signings.

North End travelled to the John Smith’s Stadium after defeats at the hands of Hull City and Reading, with a win absolutely imperative.

Frankie McAvoy’s man were dismal once again though, and fell to a 1-0 defeat as Sepp van den Berg’s own goal handed Huddersfield the win.

That’s three league defeats to start the season, and McAvoy already finds himself under pressure with Preston rooted to the bottom of the Championship table.

It’s absolutely clear that this North End squad just isn’t good enough. Certainly not for a top half finish, maybe not even to stay up as things stand.

Signings are needed, and not just a striker. The squad is lacking in quality and needs reinforcing across the pitch, with years of poor recruitment now catching up with the Lilywhites.

January signing Whiteman, who isn’t exactly covering himself in glory right now either, has now called for new signings to be made.

Whiteman has told Lancs Live that he ‘definitely’ wants to see new faces arrive to make the squad more competitive and give everybody a lift, but understands that those decision lie with the people above him.

“Definitely,” said Whiteman. “As soon as you see a fresh face, it lifts the place. Obviously you want to see competition for places. It makes you better and it makes the squad more competitive.”

“But again, it’s not up to me it is up to people above – and whatever they decide, is going to happen,” he added.
