Preston are currently chasing defensive additions, and a bizarre link to Mathias ‘Zanka’ Jorgensen has emerged today.
Sepp van den Berg and Liam Lindsay are expected to sign for North End imminently, on loan and permanently respectively.
That may not be the end of the defensive additions though, and Jorgensen is suddenly a name being connected to Preston.
Jorgensen to Preston – really?!
Turkish transfer insider Ekrem Konur has taken to Twitter to claim that North End are interested in signing Jorgensen.
Birmingham City are thought to be interested too, as are FC Copenhagen – where Jorgensen was on loan this past season.
Jorgensen will seemingly leave when Fenerbahce appoint a new manager, with the centre back allegedly having no future with the Turkish giants.
“The situation of Mathias Zanka in Fenerbahçe has not yet been clarified,” said Konur. “Besides Copenhagen, Preston and Birmingham City are also interested in the player. After the clarification of the new coach, there will be separations in Fenerbahçe,” he added.
Who is Mathias Jorgensen?
Some may remember Jorgensen from his time at Huddersfield Town, as he played in the Premier League for the Terriers following a 2017 move from Copenhagen.
Now 31, Jorgensen is part of Denmark’s Euro 2020 squad, so you could see him in action for the Danes this summer.
A move to Preston just seems too bizarre to be true. One report from last year suggested that Jorgensen is earning €1.7million-a-year at Fenerbahce, which works out to around £28,000-a-week.
North End are in no position to pay even half of that to Jorgensen, so we’re very much doubting that this move happens.
