With Callum Robinson sold to Sheffield United, we’re all expecting a new winger to arrive.

A left-sided winger with a turn of pace and a right foot to cut inside appears to be what fans want, with Robinson’s possessing all of those attributes.

Another player who ticks those boxes is Brandon Barker. The Manchester City wide man spent last season on loan at Deepdale, but it’s fair to say he divided opinion.

Some – myself included – feel Barker only showed flashes of his quality. Yes, there’s potential there, but it’s a surprise to see many clamouring for him to return given his injury record and Preston’s injury woes as a club last season.

North End do appear to hold some sort of interest in Barker. The LEP claim that City are currently refusing to loan him out, and their price for his permanent signature is too high.

Alan Nixon backed that claim up today, claiming North End only want Barker on loan. That’s believed to be holding up any move for the winger.

As seen above though, Barker is still knocking about with his former teammates. The winger took to Instagram last night to post a photo alongside Preston pair Josh Ginnelly and Andrew Hughes, with the trio meeting up.

This isn’t the first time Barker has posted something on social media which appears to be harking back to his Preston loan. This photo from May – of him celebrating scoring for Preston – was captioned ‘missing it’.

With the rumours ongoing, Barker has added a little fuel to them by showing his night out with two North End players. Some players may well love to see Barker back at Deepdale, but whether a deal can be thrashed out with City remains to be seen.
