Preston have snapped up their first January signing in Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Jayson Molumby – and he knows a few North Enders past and present.

Molumby’s loan move to Deepdale was confirmed on Tuesday night, with the 21-year-old penning a deal until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old arrives with a season of Championship experience under his belt having spent last season on loan at Millwall.

He impressed in South London with 36 league appearances to his name, but having struggled for first-team action at Brighton, he now returns to the Championship for playing time.

Molumby has already highlighted that Ireland international teammates Seani Maguire and Alan Browne were factors in his move, and one ex-North Ender likes the deal.

Callum Robinson plays with Molumby for Ireland, and still keeps close tabs on Preston having only left the club for Sheffield United in 2019.

The West Brom ace took to Instagram to brand Molumby a ‘very good signing’ for North End, wishing him the best of luck during his time at Deepdale, with Robinson well aware of how a strong loan spell at Preston can springboard a career.
