Cameron Archer continues to shine on loan at Preston – and Aston Villa star Tyrone Mings is clearly keeping an eye on the striker’s progress.

Archer made a dream start to his Preston career by scoring against Villa’s bitter rivals West Bromwich Albion.

We now know that goal wasn’t a fluke, with Archer continuing to look a major threat in the games since that debut strike.

On Saturday, Archer was the hero in Preston’s 1-0 win at Hull City.

The 20-year-old scored the only goal of the game, latching onto a Ben Whiteman pass to fire into the corner of the net.

Archer may be gutted to only have one goal to his name against Hull having gone close twice in the first half.

Matt Ingram made one fine save as Archer struck a low shot from an Emil Riis pass, and Archer then rattled the post just seconds later.

Holding the ball up with his back to goal and turning away from a Hull defender, Archer was desperately unlucky to hit the woodwork and not the back of the net.

Archer was electric throughout and deserved his goal, with his time at Preston already seemingly paving dividends for all involved.

We can only hope that Villa think a full season on loan at Preston is the way forward for the striker’s development, but that may be wishful thinking.

Villa defender Mings has now joined the praise for Archer, taking to Instagram to simply state ‘light work’ after seeing Archer had scored yet again.

Mings is right; at the moment, Archer is making light work of the Championship.

Who knows if Preston can extend Archer’s loan, but we can certainly enjoy the striker whilst he’s still here.
