Preston went into the day looking for a new centre back – and West Bromwich Albion’s Cedric Kipre seemed to be a prime target.

North End had allegedly lined up a deal to sign Kipre on loan until the end of the season, but the move went cold.

Instead, Preston signed Stoke City’s Liam Lindsay as a left-footed replacement for Ben Davies following his move to Liverpool.

Sepp van den Berg has also come in from Liverpool as part of the Davies deal, meaning there was no room for Kipre to come in.

The 24-year-old hasn’t made a single Premier League appearance since joining West Brom from Wigan Athletic for £900,000 last summer.

North End seemingly viewed him as a player who could come in as a Championship-ready defender, but instead went for Lindsay given that he is a left-footer.

Kipre has though landed himself a shock move before the deadline, and he is heading off to Belgium with Charleroi.

The giant defender will look to get his career back on track having signed on loan until the summer, and who knows – maybe Preston can revisit this one down the line.
