Preston North End showed an interest in signing Osaze Urhoghide over the summer, and it looks like he may be leaving Celtic on loan very soon.
Preston were looking for defensive options over the summer.
A right-sided defender who could also play as a full back was wanted, with Sepp van den Berg returning on loan from Liverpool.
Lancs Live noted that Preston did explore a move for Sheffield Wednesday talent Urhoghide, but chose to back away from a deal.
With wing back Matthew Olosunde coming in from Rotherham too, there just wasn’t room for Urhoghide in the end.
Urhoghide did land a move away from Wednesday, joining Celtic on a four-year contract.
The defender has real potential for the future, but has yet to actually make a senior appearance for Celtic.
It’s now claimed by The Scottish Sun that Urhoghide is primed for a loan move away from Parkhead.
The 21-year-old is thought to be some way off Ange Postecoglou’s plans at Celtic, but has been on the bench in European games.
The only way we can really see Preston going back in for Urhoghide is if Olosunde’s injury nightmares continue.
Even then, Urhoghide is more of a centre back. If deployed on the right, he would be a full back rather than a wing back.
Celtic still have high hopes for Urhoghide, but it’s clear that he isn’t quite ready for first-team football there just yet.
