Chris Kirkland played for many big clubs during his career, but recalls his time at Preston North End as being up there with the rest.

Speaking to Playing Away From Home, the former goalkeeper opened up about his time at Deepdale saying it was a great club to play for, and the dressing room was full of players with the right attitude, ‘no idiots’.

Callum Robinson and Jordan Hugill are just two players from that team who moved up to the Premier League whilst others like Paul Huntington and Paul Gallagher are still at the club.

Although Kirkland was an understudy to Jordan Pickford, Sam Johnstone and then Anders Lindegaard in that 15/16 season, he would have been happy to stay.

In fact, the club offered him another year, but as he was on his way to sign it, they changed their mind, and they wanted to bring in someone younger. Chris Maxwell eventually arrived to compete with Lindegaard.

Chris Kirkland now is a part-time goalkeeping coach at Colne, and helps at with charitable causes including Walking Is Brilliant, Daisy UK and the Liverpool FC Foundation.
