Preston North End beat Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 on Saturday afternoon, but there could yet be some bad news to come.
Alex Neil’s side finally claimed a home win, as Tom Barkhuizen volleyed home a superb winner early into the second half.
The long wait for a home win is over, but Preston may now be sweating over Darnell Fisher’s availability after a bizarre incident yesterday.
When defending a Wednesday corner, Fisher was seen grabbing the genitals of Owls striker Callum Paterson, which didn’t seem to faze a bemused Paterson all that much.
We’ve seen this kind of thing in football before; Vinnie Jones famously did similar to Paul Gascoigne way back in 1988, in what has become a famous photo over the years.
This is a different time though, and the Daily Mail now report that Fisher faces an FA probe into the incident, meaning he may well face action in the coming days.
One concern for North End may come from a similar incident in rugby. England prop Joe Marler was banned for 10 weeks earlier this year, having grabbed the genitals of Wales’ Alun Wyn Jones.
If The FA take a similar stance on Fisher – which is entirely possible – then Fisher’s 2020 could be over, and it would be hard to argue against it in all honesty.
