Former Preston North End boss Darren Ferguson is leaving the Championship once again having resigned from his post as Peterborough United manager.
Peterborough have confirmed the news on Twitter, with Ferguson offering his resignation to chairman Darragh MacAnthony earlier today.
The Posh were beaten 1-0 at Derby County on Saturday afternoon, falling to a late defeat against their relegation rivals.
Preston also played their part in Ferguson’s downfall, beating Peterborough 1-0 at the Weston Homes Stadium last weekend.
This brings an end to Ferguson’s third spell in charge of Peterborough, and who can really rule out another return in the future?
Ferguson first joined Peterborough in 2007, leading them to back-to-back promotions in 2008 and 2009.
After leaving in November 2009, Ferguson moved on to Preston, where he endured the worst period of his career.
Just 13 wins in 49 games, a win rate of 26.53%, Ferguson lasted less than a year in the Preston hot seat after replacing Alan Irvine.

Just weeks later, it was back to Peterborough. Ferguson and MacAnthony reconciled and Ferguson immediately guided Peterborough back to the Championship as Preston went down.
Ferguson once again left in 2015, heading on to Doncaster Rovers – where he won another promotion – before remarkably returning to Peterborough in January 2019.
Now, more than three years on and with another promotion to his name, Ferguson leaves Peterborough again in an emotional exit.
Who knows when Preston will run into Ferguson again, with the Scot clearly feeling he was no longer the right man for Peterborough.
