Preston’s game with Burnley is expected to go ahead amid concerns that Tuesday’s Lancashire derby would be called off.
Queen Elizabeth II sadly passed away on Wednesday evening at the age of 96.
The country will now enter a mourning period and football governing bodies have taken the decision to postpone all football.
Preston’s trip to face Bristol City at Ashton Gate on Saturday afternoon has now been called off and will be rescheduled for another time.
Games for next weekend are already thought to be at risk as well; North End take on Sheffield United at Deepdale next Saturday.
Questions have also been asked about Tuesday’s Lancashire derby with Burnley.
The Northampton Chronicle carry a statement from the EFL stating that fixtures are set to recommence on Tuesday, September 13th.
This statement has also been relayed by Oxford United and Gillingham’s official accounts.
That means – as things stand – Preston v Burnley will be going ahead as scheduled with a decision on next weekend’s games to come.
The EFL statement does suggest that some clubs may still want to postpone games due to ‘resourcing issues’, but Preston v Burnley seemingly has the green light.
Should the game go ahead as planned, this will be the first league meeting between the two teams since Burnley’s 1-0 win at Deepdale back in April 2016.
The Sky Sports cameras are scheduled to be at Deepdale for Tuesday’s clash and it currently looks like there will be a game to be shown.
