Anthony Gordon had a loan spell with Preston North End last season but didn’t get the game time he or the fans would have wanted.
He only started five games under Alex Neil and Frankie McAvoy and made six further appearances from the bench. He looked a great player, capable of producing a bit of magic in an otherwise stagnant team.
However he didn’t fit into McAvoy’s formation and even his substitute appearances were always too late to make an impact.
Gordin is liked at Everton though. Carlo Ancelotti rated him and Rafa Benitez has been giving him some chances this season.
Gordon has made eight appearances for The Toffees already, including a start in the 1-1 draw against Manchester United. Rafa trusts him and it’s led to a first call up to the England Under 21’s.
The 20 year-old has been included in Lee Carsley’s squad along with Matt Hill’s son; James from Fleetwood Town.
He’s in good company in that squad and could one day make the step up to the senior squad. He definitely could have been utilised better in his time at Preston North End.
