Former Preston North End captain Callum Davidson has today been sacked by Scottish Premiership side St Johnstone.

PNE fans certainly know how quickly things can change in football.

Ryan Lowe looked doomed just a couple of months ago as many North End fan seemed to be turning against the Liverpudlian.

The turnaround has been incredible though and Lowe has guided PNE to within touching distance of the playoffs.

Why Chelsea FINALLY Turned A Corner.

Sadly for Callum Davidson, his situation has changed in the opposite direction.

Former North End captain Davidson – who racked up more than 150 league appearances for PNE – was earning plaudits from all corners not long ago.

Davidson worked wonders as he won the Scottish League Cup and Scottish Cup in his first full season, guiding St Johnstone into Europe.

Defeat to Galatasaray was no great shame and Davidson seemed primed to kick on with his managerial career.

St Johnstone started losing players though, including their star midfielder Ali McCann to PNE, and Davidson’s fortunes have changed.

St Johnstone only stayed in the top flight by the skin of their teeth last season and the Saints clearly fear being dragged into a relegation battle again.

Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Livingston has proven to be the end for Davidson as St Johnstone have today confirmed that Davidson has left the club by mutual consent.

This is a sad turn of events for a PNE favourite in Davidson, who looked destined for big things not too long ago.

In fact, The Courier reported in December 2021 that Davidson was one of PNE’s managerial targets as they looked to replace Frankie McAvoy.

The job ended up going to Lowe and whilst some thought Davidson would kick on, he now finds himself out of work.

We can only hope that Davidson bounces back and becomes a prominent manager once again after today’s blow.
