Cameron Archer has provided Preston North End with another loan player to fall in love with since his arrival from Aston Villa.

Archer was highly rated by the Villa fans and by Ryan Lowe and Steven Gerrard too, yet he was still to taste football at the Championship level.

In seven games for Preston, he has already scored four goals and looks set for more as we head into the final third of the season.

Preston fans yearn for him to stay longer than his current deal whilst Aston Villa fans are already wondering why they let him go.

Their main strikers Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings are struggling in front of goal at the moment, whilst Archer is earning praise in the Championship, as is another Villa striker out on loan in Keinan Davis at Nottingham Forest.

Archer’s spell form isn’t going unnoticed outside of Preston and Villa fans, with a former Leeds United striker recently commenting on him.

Simon Johnson played for Leeds between 2000 and 2005 before going on to have spells at numerous Football League clubs including Darlington and Hereford United as well as loan spells with Blackpool and Sunderland.

Johnson took to Twitter recently to express his surprise that Aston Villa had decided to send him away for a loan spell, branding Archer an ‘absolute killer’ in front of goal.

Johnson went on to suggest Archer has a ‘massive future’ in the game, which is a view shared by many.

You can quite quickly tell after seeing a footballer in action whether they have natural talent. Archer is keen to receive the ball as often as possible, and when he does he turns quickly before looking to get a shot away. He’s enjoying his football, and Preston fans are enjoying seeing him in action.

He is bound to go on to better things, as are Sepp van den Berg and Daniel Iversen, but right now it’s a pleasure to see these young talents represent Preston North End.

Archer wasn’t born when Simon Johnson made his debut for Leeds United, but as someone who came through at a Premier League academy he will recognise someone who has the ability to go on to have a huge future in this game.

At this rate, he could be making an impact at Villa Park next season. Preston fans will hope his spell at Deepdale can be extended though.
