Preston lost Ben Davies to Liverpool on transfer deadline day, but his Anfield career hasn’t exactly got off to the best of starts.
The centre back was a star at North End having emerged through the youth ranks, becoming one of Alex Neil’s most important players.
He has yet to appear for Liverpool though, with selection and fitness issues preventing him from making his Reds debut.
Davies was a cheap punt for Liverpool at just £1.6million and a 20% sell-on clause, and some already wonder whether he could be move on this summer.
Former Preston defender Kelvin Wilson is one of them, claiming that Davies is likely to go out on loan this summer.
Wilson told The Celtic Huddle that Davies will be farmed out as soon as Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez return from injury, seemingly feeling that the Reds only see him as stop-gap cover without breaking the bank.
Wilson believes that a move to Celtic – who wanted to sign Davies on a pre-contract agreement before his Liverpool deal – would make sense for the 25-year-old.
“When Van Dijk’s back in the summer, Gomez is back, they’ve got their defenders back, he’s probably going to be loaned out next year,” said Wilson, tipping Celtic to come back in for him as a short-term fix.
Nothing can take this way from Davies though; yes, he may not become a star at Liverpool, but he has earned a dream move to Anfield and deserves a chance to prove his worth to Jurgen Klopp and co over the coming months and hopefully years.
