Much has been made of Preston’s decision to release Tyrhys Dolan, and the conversation won’t be going away any time soon.
Dolan, formerly of Manchester City and Burnley, was one of Preston’s brightest talents in the Under-18’s, often excelling at youth level.
Yet when it came to professional deals last summer, Dolan wasn’t given a senior contract, and was allowed to leave Deepdale for free in a controversial move.
Blackburn Rovers swooped in to sign Dolan as Ryan Kidd helped lure him to Ewood Park, and he has set about proving North End wrong.
The 19-year-old has hit three goals and two assists in 20 Championship appearances this season, even scoring against Preston at Deepdale in November.
He came on against Preston on Friday night and looked dangerous, though Ryan Ledson certainly laid one on him, possibly retribution for his exuberant celebration after his Deepdale goal.
Today, Dolan’s rise has taken another step as Rovers have confirmed that Dolan has been given a new three-and-a-half year deal with the option of another 12 months.
From being on the Preston scrapheap to earning a long-term deal with a Championship rival, Dolan has really shown North End up over the last year – and Preston can’t let this kind of thing happen again.
