Earlier this summer, Preston had discussed a move to bring in Manchester City goalkeeper Aro Muric. Sadly, we were beaten by Nottingham Forest.

The Kosovo international needs playing time, and North End were hoping to use links with City to get him. After all, we took Brandon Barker and Lukas Nmecha on loan last summer.

However, Forest swooped in and took Muric on loan for the season. The 20-year-old will look to develop under new boss Sabri Lamouchi, but he hasn’t made the best start.

Muric started in goal for Forest against Olympiakos on Tuesday, with Lamouchi’s men heading over to Greece. Owner Evangelos Marinakis also owns Olympiakos, so the pair facing off wasn’t a huge shock.

Sadly, Forest endured a nightmare – and so did Muric. It all started with attempting a Cruyff turn against an Olympiakos attacker, getting his feet caught up underneath him and having to give away a corner.

Muric was a touch hesitant for the first goal, then strangely patted down a header from a corner for the second. It was a similar story for the third, mis-handling a shot before Olympiakos profited from ensuing chaos in the Forest back line.

Muric was taken off at half time, though it’s unlikely to be performance related. It’s pre-season after all, so Lamouchi will have given Costel Pantilimon a chance to shine.

Still, Forest fans were far from impressed with Muric. The young stopper was branded ‘shocking’ and criticised for his handling. Some – surely jokingly – suggested sending Muric back to City already.

It’s only pre-season, and Muric is such a highly-rated goalkeeper, that you’d back him to bounce back and enjoy a great season.

For Preston though, we may be hoping that this is a sign of things to come, just to make us feel that little bit better about missing out on his signature in the first place.
